Standard Program Components

SHP always provides on-site nurse staffing and a physician always visits the facility on a regular basis. Our nurse is on-call to the jail officers at all times for phone consultations, and our physician is on-call to the nurse. We order all care, supplies, pharmaceuticals, and medical procedures.

If the contract terms call for a full-service program, then we also pay for all the components of medical care.

Although we have limits on our exposure to high costs, we manage all care throughout the process.

Most of the contracts between the various county customers and SHP are designed to allow for comprehensive services, meaning that SHP manages the usage and costs of all services outside the jail as well as inside the jail facility.

We have designed a generic Request for Proposal (RFP) for County Jails and Detention Centers for the purpose of soliciting a medical care contractor. This RFP includes a contract for use in the process. You may choose to download this RFP if you plan to solicit health care providers. It is available in both MS Word and Acrobat pdf versions.

If there will not be a solicitation (RFP) process, we have also provided for a download of a standard contract form that we would propose in the contracting process. Also for download there is a survey form for completion if a county should want a written proposal for health care services from Southern Health Partners, Inc.

Healthcare Education

In addition to being the sole provider of health care to inmates of the county facilities where we operate, SHP also fills the role of health educator for inmates at those jails where we are providing care. We also fill the role of educating the officers who work in those institutions on many health-related topics. We have several training programs available for our customers. Most of these programs can be taught by our nursing staff at the site, but we may have our regional or group manager hold the session in the jail facility. This training is free of charge to our customers. We also can help in meeting the various statutory and regulatory requirements, as well as accreditation standards, and our advice and assistance on any of these topics is always a part of our services at no additional cost.
